Windows Not Assign Drive Letter To USB External Drive

It is convenience to use USB portable external hard drive to backup or transfer files to others. I’m using PATA and SATA USB hard drive enclosure for backup. After transferring files into few USB external hard drives, Windows (Windows Vista or Windows 7) are not showing my USB external hard drive in “Computer“.

By right click “Computer” and select “Manage“, click on “Disk Management“, the USB external hard drive appear as “RAW” and not accessible under file explorer.

It still not accessible by safely remove the USB drive and plug it back. After google around, I’d found out the reason why Windows are not assign drive letter to my USB drive.

It is solved by enable a Windows’s DiskPart tools feature called AutoMount under command prompt.

1.) Click on the “Start Orb” – “All Programs” – “Accessories” – “Command Prompt”
2.) Type diskpart, press enter.
3.) Type automount enable, press enter.
4.) Type exit to end diskpart tool.
5.) Safely remove all connected USB drive and and plug it back.

Video Link Missing In Facebook

The video link of my upload videos in Facebook has been removed after Facebook major updates recently. After google for some answer, some recommend look into account settings, application settings etc… but all these tips are not work anymore. Searching via Facebook help, it suggest to click on “more” in the left panel to show more apps or link but just don’t get my “video” link.
At the end, I’ve found out that all my uploaded video has been put together into “photos” section. Just click into your own profile then click on Photos, click “see all: videos“.

You may try steps below to remove infected virus or spyware from your PC:

Make a bootable antivirus CD.
- Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk here.
- Download Active ISO Burner.
- Open the kav_rescue_10.iso file with Active ISO Burner and burn it into a CD disc. (Do not copy or burn the iso file to CD via explorer or Nero Express.)
Boot up your PC with Kaspersky Rescue Disk and start scan your hard disk. Most infected file are created by virus, it should be safe to delete. (more screen shot here)
After scanning done, you may get a lot of pop-up error messages that shows files are missing or cannot locate the startup file. Its because the previous infected startup object command line haven’t being remove from system configuration. Press the [windows key] + [R], this will bring up the Run program window. Type msconfig and click OK.
Go to Startup tab and un-tick any suspicious startup program.
Some object may left in the Services tab, just click Services tab, tick Hide all Microsoft services. Un-tick any suspicious startup program.
For advance user, you may use HijackThis ver 2.0.4 to scan through the system registry, browser object and startup command line.

Perform a system scan, tick any suspicious command line and click Fix checked. (note: use with cautions)

Prolink H5301G setup problem solved

I never face such problem that cannot console or setup an ADSL router via IE or other browser. But I finally solved my new Prolink H5301G Wireless ADSL router setup problem in two days , please check out the solution below.

First, I need to change the default login at Admin – Password.

After I key in my new login password, the result page doesn’t show up? What happen?

There is no solution found online, so I have take it back to shop. The pc guy told me the security issue may cause the problem such as firewall etc. However, by turning off all firewall and IE security, I still not able to setup the router.

Later that day I realize, is it due to Avast antivirus protection? Avast antivirus comes with protection such as script blocking, network shield, web shield etc. I suspect the “Web Shield” protection is the culprit, so I turn it off and try to setup my router.

Finally, it is the “Web Shield” protection cause the setup no shown up. After enter my new password, a small button appear at the bottom left of the screen inform to click “Save”.

Lastly, the login prompt show up and ask for new login password. Basic setup Done!

How to solve WordPress – Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_link_cats() error

I setup a new blog yesterday and installing (uploading) the latest version of WordPress 2.5.1 to my host. Login to admin panel, setting up user profile, themes and plugins, everything seems to be working fine. But when I try to add link, it shows the error: Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_link_cats() in /blog/wp-admin/link-manager.php on line 155.

I’m shock and try Google for answer; however there is no solution for this “Fatal error”. Some tips that I’m able to find is add a .htaccess file into wp-admin folder with the command line below:

SecFilterInheritance Off

But it doesn’t help!!

At last, I found a similar solution that may able to solve the wordpress’s fatal error!

The solution is to upload (ftp) the whole wp-admin folder to my host. Just overwrite all files in wp-admin folder and the add link is back to live.

Email Encoder Avoid Email Spam

If you’re receiving spam email every day, your email address is probably being harvested by the spambot or spam spider. It happens when you publish email address on your web page, although you’re not going to make it a mailto email hyperlink but the @ sign is attracting them. The spambot are collecting email through your web page source and in order to defend your mailbox you should start work out on these file such as html, php etc.

One of the easiest way to protect your email is publish your email like yourname(a)domain(dot)com or yourname @ domain.com, but it is not user friendly for me as I need to modify the (a) to @, the (dot) or closing the spaces between the @ sign before I can send it out.

A more advance method is using Java Script to scribble the email address in the html source file. However, you may not able to edit the html’s /strong> sections when you’re publishing your web site using the online sitebuilder or CMS software. Some scripts require a Java load command in the section.

For the email encoder method, it changes your email address from ASCII code to Hex code. E.g.: yourname@domain.com will be encoded into yourna.

Just copy and paste these code into your html file and it’ll show up a normal email address in your browser. This method makes your web site user friendly and no script modification in your html files.

How To Uninstall Soholaunch And Fix pinEdit.php Not Found Issue

Just setting up my new web host and play around with the website builder under Fantastico – Soholaunch. Soholaunch is an online script for user to create or modify web page online. By using GUI editing, it is suitable for beginner who knows nothing of a html code. But if you can do more than a html editing, then I suggest to go for advance content management system – Joomla or Drupal. Why? Compare with Joomla or Drupal, Soholaunch is not a fully open-source script that you’ll need to pay for more web template, plugins or extension to upgrade it to Pro version. Anyway, this post is to share the ~~freak~~ fix of Soholaunch on how to uninstall Soholaunch and solve the pinEdit.php not found issue.

First, I suggest install Soholaunch via Fantastico so that you’ll get rid of the uninstall nightmare. If it is not found in your server, you may install it manually but download an installer file from the website and strongly suggest install it in a folder of your root dir. e.g: /www/page/ .Assume you already create your SQL Database for Soholaunch, installation is fast and easy, setting up admin login and start to play around with it. It start with a website builder wizard by guide you step by step from choosing a template to page editing. When it comes to page editing, I got the message as below (assume my site is www.domain-name.com):
Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /sohoadmin/program/modules/editor/pinEdit.php could not be found on this server.
Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.domain-name.com Port 80
I’ve play around and test everything, it was running find but when try to edit the web page the error occur. The pinEdit.php is an editing script, it’ll run but issue the whole URL:
http://www.domain-name.com/page/sohoadmin/program/modules/editor/pinEdit.php
So, soholaunch does have a forum, however by digging down to the end and I still can’t find any solution. Lastly, Google has save the day and it just a simple workout to solve it:
1.) Create a htaccess file with Notepad.
2.) Put this line in:
SecFilterEngine Off
3.) Save and FTP to the program root. (/www/page)
4.) rename htaccess to .htaccess with FTP client.
Ha, I’m able to editing my page now!
How to uninstall Soholaunch manually
Uninstall Soholaunch from Fantastico is easier than manually delete from your server. First, I drop all the Soholaunch’s SQL database and try to delete all the folder with FTP client. Because the script has been set with owner permission, I can’t delete it with FTP and getting a permission denied or folder are not empty, task cannot be perform. However, an attempt to delete all the folder with cPanel’s File Manager Fail! Lastly, to uninstall Soholaunch completely from your server is done by delete the upper level folder – the /www/page . Go to File Manager, click www folder icon, click on the page word, click delete this folder then click the trash can and trash it link. The page folder will be dump into .trash folder.
Next, go to Disk Space Usage and click Clear File Usage Cache. Go back to File Manager and the page folder are not longer exist but I strongly suggest you issue a ticket to your host’s support to double check or ask them to delete it for you.
